Project Snapshot: U.S. Coast Guard SWIII Cabling Contract

Coast GuardJuly’s Project Snapshot Series highlights Futron’s role in the U.S. Coast Guard infrastructure upgrade project.

As the prime contractor for the U.S. Coast Guard SWIII Cabling Program, Futron’s personnel followed the manual for a successful structured cabling implementation in more than 60 campuses and 28 ships. The contract included labor, material purchase and installing structured cabling systems in more than 80 sites located CONUS and OCONUS. Technicians were required to be trained in the detection of asbestos and securing of the job site to prevent potential exposure. Futron coordinated efforts with a licensed asbestos contractor for safe and successful job completion. In addition, more than 2,000 openings at various U.S. Coast Sites required fireproofing. Regardless of the location around the world, all Coast Guard systems were identical and easy to manage.

At the time, this was the largest IT contract within the department of transportation that came in on time and under budget. This resulted in Futron sharing with the U.S. Coast Guard the Secretary of Transportation award. It’s a huge honor and demonstrates Futron’s superior project management skills.
